By Kathy Morrow A second elementary school is expected to open in New Territory next fall as the first project in the recently approved FBISD bond referendum. Associate Superintendent for Facilities and Planning, Lee Petros, said officials are hoping to finalize plans and open the new school in the fall of 1997. The site, a tract along Cunningham Creek Blvd. south of Summerhill, will be purchased after the feasibility |
study is completed, he said.
Petros said the proposed school is designed differently than New Territory's other elementary school, Walker Station, and will mirror plans for the recently constructed Walter Moses Burton Elementary School in Teal Run near Arcola. "It was efficiently designed with teacher workrooms next to the classrooms and a central library. It was very well accepted by the staff," he said. The school, which will accommodate about 750 students, is expected to cost $7.5 million. |
Three other
elementary schools are also scheduled to be built out of the $140 million
bond referendum approved by voters earlier this year.
The feasibility study, which consists of examining traffic flow, soil samples, flood zones, and fault lines is expected to be finished this week, he said. Construction will begin in the next few months. June 5,1996 Fort Bend Star |
